GNFC wins two more awards for Neem Project and Cashless Township
- Awarded Businessworld Digital India Award in Cashless sale of Fertilizers and Cashless Township, supported by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, given by Union Electronics & Information Technology Minister – Shri Ravi Shanker Prasad.
- Won prestigious India CSR Leadership Summit Award for the most Innovative Project of the Year, given by Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment – Shri Ramdas Athawale.
May 27, 2017: Continuing its winning streak, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) has won two more awards for its exemplary work through its Neem Project and 100% cashless drive. The company received prestigious India CSR Leadership Summit Award in the category of Innovation for creating shared value by providing livelihood to rural women, while achieving business excellence. In addition, GNFC also won Businessworld Digital India Award for ‘Best Implementation of Digital Payments’ for its implementation of various cashless initiatives in fertilizer sale and township.
Businessworld Digital India Summit 2017 supported by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Digital India initiative, Government of India conferred the coveted “Best Implementation of Digital Payments” award to GNFC for Cashless Township and Cashless Sale of Fertilizers. Dr. Gupta received the award in Delhi from Union Electronic & Information Minister – Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad on 26th May, 2017 at Taj Palace, Delhi. The event has been supported by Government of Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh and Microsoft, among many others.
As part of promoting cashless transactions and converting India into less-cash society, various modes of digital payments have been implemented. GNFC followed precise and concise steps that began with trainings and digital literacy campaigns far and wide, followed by building and adapting infrastructure, and concluded with cross functional task force deployed for implementation, outreach and support. Under the auspice of NITI Aayog, GNFC’s cashless township model has been implemented in 81 integrated townships across 12 states, which were launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 14th April, 2017.
At India CSR Summit in Mumbai, Shri Ramdas Athawale, Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India gave away the award and congratulated GNFC on its commendable efforts towards the upliftment of rural women. Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta IAS, MD GNFC was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award (PSU Leader), for pioneering Neem Project and upscaling it among many leading fertilizer PSUs. The award ceremony was conducted in Mumbai on 26th May 2017 at Hotel Sahara Star and was attended by 400 CSR leaders from across India. The award process entails a rigorous 3 level procedure of short listing and selection, including an independent ground assessment. GNFC won among 200 applicants.
The India CSR award recognizes Neem Project’ contribution to empowering marginalised communities and the rural poor with targeted focus on women empowerment by generating income and improving their livelihood prospects, while fulfilling the Hon. Prime Minister’s Vision of Neem Coating 100% Urea. In the last two years, the Neem Project generated INR 25 crore supplementary income for about 2.25 lakh rural women and landless labourers. Neem Project is being scaled up to six other states and intends to collect seeds in 73 districts across India, to generate over INR 50 crore for 6 lakh women.
